Well, we did it again! During the month of June, 69 Christians from 16 different churches came together to prayer walk every street in Hemel Hempstead. That’s 1,065 streets soaked in prayer and the love of God! This marks the fourth year we have gathered Christians from across our community to saturate every street in Hemel with prayer. Jesus gave “The Lord’s Prayer” as a template to help the first disciples pray and this continues to be our model for prayer today. A copy of our Love Hemel Prayer Guide was provided to everyone taking part and it was encouraging to hear how so many of you found this to be such a helpful focus and support again this year. It was a real joy to gather together in preparation for Love Hemel during May. Our Launch Service was hosted by Gadebridge Baptist Church on 10th May, where we shared the vision for this year’s prayer walk, worshipped together, and had another very special time of prayer for our town. Then on Sunday 31st May, Liberty Tea Rooms hosted our Kick-Off Prayer where we dedicated the month of prayer walking to God and prayed for all those taking part. Afterwards a number of us went into the Marlowes to prayer walk the town centre. Sign-ups this year were steady, with a strong last-minute surge. It was encouraging to welcome both returning participants and those joining us for the first time. By the end of the first week of June, 834 streets had already been allocated. We are especially grateful to those who volunteered to take on additional streets. So many offered that, in the end, not everyone was needed to cover the remaining streets. Our hope for the future is that so many people will sign up that there will be no need for anyone to cover extra streets. On Saturday 27th June we gathered at the Rainbow Stage in the town centre to connect Love Hemel with our wider community and to bless our town. This was a new initiative for 2026. Due to extreme heat we needed to scale back our original plans for live worship. However, we felt led to respond in a simple and practical way by giving out free bottles of cold water along with our homemade Love Hemel biscuits. This created many meaningful opportunities for conversation about Love Hemel and our faith in Jesus Christ. We handed out around 250 leaflets explaining the vision, each including a QR code to submit prayer requests or explore the gospel in 90 seconds. Many people also received a special World Cup edition of Mark’s Gospel. We are so thankful to everyone who supported this outreach. Those who helped with the PA, those who sat and prayed quietly, and those who engaged with people by handing out water, biscuits, Bibles, and leaflets. It was a powerful expression of God’s love for Hemel on a very hot day! By the end of June, most people had confirmed that they had completed their allocated streets. A period of very wet weather followed by extreme heat made it difficult for some to complete their walks as planned, so a small number finished in early July. We really appreciate the feedback received from those taking part and will be sharing some of these reflections at the end of this report. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who played a part in Love Hemel this year — to Gadebridge Baptist Church and Liberty Tea Rooms for hosting our services, and to all who supported the town centre outreach in any way. But most of all, thank you for praying for Hemel.  Thank you for walking every street and taking God’s love to every place in our town. We know that he longs for every person, on every street, to know Jesus personally and believe that with every prayer and every step, the spiritual atmosphere of our town is changing. Our plan is to do this again in June 2027 and we would love for you to be part of it.
